Dabei ist Schnupfen jedoch nicht gleich Schnupfen, denn zwischen wässrig-flüssigem und festsitzend-eitrigem Sekret gibt es viele Ausprägungen. Der sogenannte Fließschnupfen beschreibt eine Form des akuten Schnupfens, der dadurch charakterisiert ist, dass wässriges, dünnflüssiges Sekret nahezu durchgehend aus der Nase fließt. Die Folge ist, dass die Nase ständig geputzt werden muss und dies in Kombination mit dem wässrigen Sekret die Haut unter der Nase wund macht.
