Dieser Test ermöglicht Rückschlüsse auf die Verfügbarkeit von Vitamin B12 im Stoffwechsel. Vitamin B12 wirkt als Coenzym für die Methylmalonyl-CoA-Mutase, die den Stoffwechselweg von Methylmalonyl-CoA zu Succinyl-CoA im Citratzyklus katalysiert.
