The English Thoroughbred breed can be traced back to three founding stallions: Darley Arabian, Byerley Turk and Godolphin, who is known as Godolphin Arabian or Godolphin Barb. The Barb stallion Shams, born around 1724, came to King Louis XV as a gift from the Bey of Tunis and only acquired his famous name through his last owner, the 2nd Earl of Godolphin. The fragrance "Godolphin" by Parfums de Marly was dedicated to this important animal. The fragrance begins under the aegis of saffron, with thyme, cypress and green notes. However, fruity notes and a tart hint of maté are also present right from the start.
