The solder is also suitable as a lead-free alternative for tinning copper strands and for dip soldering applications in transformer construction. The alloy Sn97Cu3 according to DIN EN ISO 9453 is characterized by a melting and working range of approx. 227 to 310 °C. When melting, the capillary effect typical of the material supports an even distribution of the solder in the soldering gap. A suitable flux is required for processing, e.g. Lötwasser Kupferblech LWK 368. It is applied using a copper soldering iron or suitable soldering equipment after thorough cleaning of the parts to be joined.
