L’olio di melaleuca contiene diverse sostanze aromatiche ad azione disinfettante. Tra queste troviamo il terpinen - 4 - olo, un alcol che costituisce circa il 40% dell’olio, e monoterpeni. Favorisce la fisiologica funzionalità delle prime vie respiratorie. E’ indicato in caso di infezioni delle vie respiratorie, che provocano faringiti e tonsilliti, febbre, bronchiti, raffreddore, mal di gola. Ha una significativa attività antifungina; risulta utile per il trattamento della candidosi vaginale, ed in particolare per le forme azoto resistenti.
