The active ingredient of oral Wegovy is semaglutide, the same active ingredient found in the weekly Wegovy injection. Oral Wegovy uses SNAC coating technology to protect semaglutide as it passes through your stomach. This allows the medication to be absorbed into your bloodstream. Without SNAC, stomach acid would break down the medication before it could work. The pill uses a higher daily dose (25 mg) for maintenance because less medication is absorbed orally than through injection, achieving a similar effect as the 2.4 mg weekly injection.
